Stewart What I find strange is that when you create an account with the usual first and last name, it also asks for your date of birth and weight. I don't understand why.

Not sure on the date of birth, but I bet Google wants your weight so they can plan all your routes the most 'fuel efficient' way!! 😂

It looks like a great app... But should I be concerned that the known trackers are Google crashlytics and Facebook login? Will they collect any data from me if I install this in my main profile? This looks REALLY good!

mar2112 I remember reading some time ago that Here WeGo is a real nightmare when it comes to privacy. There was even a debate about it on the Privacy Guide website.

nandohyphen1 , not sure about the exact date, but now since the update is on google play, you have to pay for premium features, such as offline maps etc. Magic Earth was my favourite navigation so far. But with this kind of pricing I'm out. 14.99 € (right now special offer 6€) per year, this is way too much for my kind of use, need car navigation maybe 5 times a month. When they were talking about the new payment for the android app I though they mentioned something like 0.99€ a year.

linux-dev yeah this sucks. Was my best maps option too. I will have to use OsmAnd now. Does anyone know if there are any better maps apps that are close to GMaps but privacy friendly? I've tried Organic Maps, CoMaps, OsmAnd, and Magic Earth. So far the only one I really like for navigation is OsmAnd now. I wish there were better privacy respecting maps apps that were close to GMaps

nandohyphen1 I feel you, I actually ended up paying for ME, and the new update isn't as good, especially search, used to be better. I'm really not sure what they did

RRZishe I guess Magic Earth just decided that people will pay to use it, so they may as well make money off of them. A shame.

I always found MEs routing to be rather strange. On a recent trip it directed me to drive on 30ish miles of residential roads issued of a nearby highway.

Yeah I've found that too. If I was using GMaps, it would have directed me on the highway, instead of through the city and backroads. It also tells me to turn at the very last moment - when its too late.

I'm completely fine paying for Magic Earth. They've got to stay profitable somehow, and I'd rather that be thru my subscription than selling my data.

If you need a free, offline, private maps app just use CoMaps. Magic Earth is unique among privacy-focused options in that it provides live traffic data.

Organic Maps works great for me. I think CoMaps is similar, I am not sure why many people left Organic for Co.
