Charging problems on Pixel 6a since updating to 2025112101 QPR1

about my charging problems. If you scroll through it you can read what I've posted (I start posting at the 103rd post). But here's an overview of what's going on.

The day after updating to QPR1, my phone chargers stopped charging my phone. I would plug it in and it would charge for a few minutes, and then stop charging. So I'd repeat the process. I've tried 4 cables, 3 chargers, cleaning the USB port and cable ends, different USB port settings, rebooting the phone, charging it when its off. It also won't recognise another Pixel 6a when plugged in with a USB C to USB C cable. I have three 6a's and none of them charge properly. Here's some snippets of what I've been saying in the thread I linked earlier.

@nandohyphen1 OK, I did another really really good clean of my USB port and all the charging cable ends. The 6ft cables give me problems still but the 3ft cable is charging my phone normally now. My friend with a 6a said they just got a 3ft cable to test this and a 3ft cable works for them, whereas anything longer doesn't. Just a reminder this started the day after updating to QPR1. I'm not blaming GOS at all, but it really seems to have to do with this update, since all of our 6a's charged fine before - didn't matter the cable length.

@nandohyphen1 I'm encountering another USB problem. Using the factory USB C to USB C cable, I wanted to plug it in to two Pixel 6a's to transfer a large file. Plugging it in, neither device recognises each other. Both devices are having trouble charging. Both are 6a's on the latest stable release (I'm on 2025112101 and the other 6a is on 2025112100). This is seriously crazy since both devices charged completely fine before this update, which makes me suspect this update. I honestly cannot rule out any other explanations. They charged before, now they don't. I've rebooted them, tried different cables and chargers, cleaned the USB ports and cable ends, tried charging with the phones off, used different USB port settings. I don't know what to do now.

I'm also monitoring charging with Plus Plus Battery. Here's a screenshot of the stats;

Here's what I know. My phone charged fine before updating to 2025112101 and so did my other 6a's. Now they do not charge properly or recognise each other if plugged into each other (they still recognise a computer). I've honestly tried all I can, and nothing's working. I've got to suspect this update since all the 6a's were fine before it and so were all the cables and chargers. This is honestly a nightmare. nandohyphen1 I wouldn't fully rule out shifting to a different wall outlet in your home just to be thorough. My friend just solved her years long printer problem this way.

Mine (main daily one) is at 152, my other ones at 83, and the last ones at 107.

None of them reported faulty battery and they all have the original battery (never replaced). They are all in almost brand new condition still.

I have tried this as well. And still the problem occurs. I really don't know what it could be. My 3ft cable still charges my phone fine, but anything longer doesn't. Even a 4ft won't charge it. Maybe the next update will fix something.

nandohyphen1 then this narrows down to that precious 3ft cable, if that cable works as expected on all your p6as, what makes it so special? Or do you believe it's merely that it is short enough? Get another short, does that follow that assumtion? Sorry if i've missed you might have already answered this.

Novalissoide It's hard to say. I've tried other 2-3ft cables and they all work. Its fine, but its weird that nothing longer works anymore - and inconvenient. I'm still used to using a 6ft cable, and I've yanked my 3ft out of the wall so many times now, since I forget I'm not using the 6ft cable. :)

nandohyphen1 just did roundup my c-c cables in my home, and only got 3ft or shorter so i can't reproduce 😒

Ive got good quality 2 meter leads one with a C the other A on the other end. Both work fine with my 6a

Carlos-Anso brookie229 yeah, its super strange that mine still won't charge with anything longer than 3ft. Maybe a future update will fix it? Fingers crossed.

My 6a charges just fine on ALL my cables, including two 6 footers that I use the most.

Oh, my bad, however. I'm actually on 2100 not 2101!

I had my phone charging and I went to set it down because I was done using it, but I accidentally dropped it on the table (not far, maybe like 5-6 inches). It was plugged into the 6ft cable (still giving me issues) and it stopped charging after falling. I plugged it back in and it started charging again. As a test, I gently dropped it again and it stopped charging. I reproduced this with the 3 foot cable also. I really can't figure this one out!

No, I have not yet as I live in a small town with no phone repair shops and I don't go to the city very often. I'll try and go to a repair shop next time I'm in the city if I have a chance. :)

Until then I suspect it makes sense to treat this as likely an issue with the USB-C hardware. It is very plausible that physical shock can influence the quality of the physical connection, and fairly unlikely that physical shock would influence the behavior of the charger, or the USB-C controller, or the relevant device driver.

And the particular hardware issue I would suspect -- especially since some cleaning of the port resulted in a partial improvement to charging -- is debris/grime in the port.
