Google Sans Flex font is now open source. Can it be adopted by GOS?

With the QPR1 update, AOSP changed the default font (Google Sans Flex ??) and it's visible in GOS in some areas like the Top Bar, Lock Screen etc. However the GOS launcher uses a different font compared to the Stock.

Now that Google released Google Sans Flex used in Material 3 design under a open source license (https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Google+Sans+Flex), can it be adopted by GOS so the UI is consistent?

The font is under the SIL 1.1 license, and other fonts distributed with GrapheneOS now are under the same license, so that shouldn't be a problem. It's not a top priority, but I would really like this font being implemented. Ever since the qpr1 update the font of the status bar clock is mismatch with the battery percentage (and the style with all the status bar icons)

One avenue might be for interested parties to pool funds to hire a developer to work on this and contribute it.

Yes please ! It's a very pretty font and as the message above said, it would make everything harmonious instead of messy with different fonts weight all over the place.

This would be fantastic. Did you make a feature request for this on the GOS Github tracker? I'm not sure it will be implemented through only the discussion forum.

Hmm, I'd be open to this as long as there's an option to change the font to the old one (or straight up just customise it to anything you want), unless the option already exists and I just haven't found it yet. The reason being I actually prefer the font that's used pre-QPR1...

I think there is a fair amount of information in those threads about ways to proceed with such a project, but I suspect the key missing ingredient is somebody to do the development and testing. At this point it does not seem very likely that discussion here or on GitHub will result in one of the developers setting something else aside to work on fonts.

So far the project does not have any sort of bounty system (or system for voting on features), and my sense is that they are not looking to manage something like that. But code contributions from members of the community have been accepted. I honestly don't know how much an Android developer might want to develop (and test) a new set of system fonts, but perhaps somebody on the forum who is interested in fonts might organize a group effort.
