FEATURE REQUEST - Ability to use HotSpot and Wi-Fi

Why isn't it possible enable wifi and hotspot at the same time, and to create a service that would route hotspot traffic to wifi? Either that or can we get wifi sharing enabled?

You cannot make a hotspot over VPN, yes, that's a limitation

Phatboi are you asking why the Hotspot connection is sourced from Cellular data and why it's not possible to have the hotspot connection sourced from WiFi?

I've had no issues turning on hotspot while connected to Wi-Fi on both GrapheneOS and stock Android.

@Phatboi What device are you using? What issue are you seeing? Some devices do not support activating a hotspot while connected to Wi-Fi. The Pixel 7a is one such device, as mentioned in these Github issues:

Let me ask a different way

Currently when I turn on my hotspot, then turn on my wifi, the hotspot gets shut off. I figured that was meant to happen, just wondered why?

To the question of why I would want something like that:
If my data plan is almost out and I'm staying at a hotel I will their wifi.
I also want to do some work on my laptop and in order to test the laptop and phone must be on the same network.
I turn on my phones hotspot and .
Then wifi shuts off, forcing it to use the data.

So why can't we keep the hotspot open and whatever traffic is coming through would get routed to the wifi connection, using the wifi and keeping it on?

Your hardware does not support this functionality. The "A" series of phones typically have cheaper hardware in order to reduce the price. Clearly, one of the places where they cheapened out the hardware to save money is on the wifi. Other phoned do support this functionality. Oddly, even some REALLY cheap wifi hardware supports this functionality, like ESP32's.
