I have two Pixel devices: A Pixel 9 Pro XL and a Pixel 9 Pro Fold. I haven't used either device for a long time, and when I recently tried to turn them on, I found that they were in a red boot state (corrupted). This is strange because the devices previously worked flawlessly and had GrapheneOS installed.
Even stranger, after the red state, the phone switches to a yellow warning that shows the correct Verified Boot Key Hash (e.g., 55d3c2323db91bb91f20d38d015e85112d038f6b6b5738fe352c1a80dba57023 for the Pixel 9 Pro XL).
After that, both devices hang at the GrapheneOS boot logo forever.
What is causing this, and how can I recover the devices? Could this be a sign that the phones have been compromised?
I tried entering Fastboot Mode and then Rescue Mode to perform a factory reset/wipe of the devices, but this yielded an error as well. I did this by:
- Hard reset: Press and hold Power + Volume UP for 15 seconds.
- Enter Fastboot mode by pressing Power + Volume Down until "Fastboot" appears.
- I used the volume buttons to select Rescue Mode and confirmed with Power.
- In Rescue Mode, where the Android image is displayed, I entered it by pressing the power button and quickly pressing the volume up button.
In this mode, I tried to perform a factory reset/wipe of the device, but it gave an error.
How can I recover?
Thanks for your help!
