I suspect Verizon is butchering something on the backend relating to delivery of MMS messages (i.e. multimedia & group texts)
I've had a related issue over the past month, am unable to reliably receive MMS messages without Google Play / Google Messages RCS running in owner profile. Followed all GOS guidance, such as deregistering from RCS and other steps detailed in the pubs. My working theory/hope is APN configuration - for the life of me, I cannot find an official publication from Verizon detailing what these settings should be for their network, just sketchy third-party sources
The real issue is testing. Without buying a number of secondary phones for this explicit purpose, I can't reliably send MMS messages to my main line & test group message delivery after tweaking with settings. I'm sure there's a clever workaround for this, but I havent found it yet
Will likely try to play around with this again in coming months, but for now, I can't risk unreliable text delivery, so I've configured Play Services & GMessages RCS in my owner profile. Feels bad lmao. I'm half-tempted to switch carriers if it's wholly unresolvable
