Getting WhatsApp running on a non-Owner profile

Hi,

I'm seeing many posts here discussing WhatsApp so obviously people are getting it running no problem. I can also get it running on my owner profile but I am unable if I install it on a secondary profile.

After installing and running the APK on the non owner user profile I get to the point where I need to verify my phone number. An SMS is supposed to be sent to the phone with a 6 digit pin. This SMS does not send, the app simply states that it cannot send the sms and to try again after some time period ranging annoyingly from 1 to 7 hours.

My question is why might this SMS not be able to send?

I tried installing WhatsApp in a few different ways (obtanium, apk downloaded from WhatsApp website, directly from Google Play) with no luck. I have google play services installed in this profile (not strictly necessary according to other users but when I try to verify my phone number GOS sends a notification saying that WhatsApp is sending a request to Google Play Services).

I have also enabled the WhatsApp profile to be able to receive calls and SMS from Owner profile settings. I have also enabled all permissions on Google Play Store app.

Again I am seeing a lot of posts here on how to restore backups for WhatsApp running GOS but I can't find anyone running into the problem of being unable to verify their phone number.

Any advice most welcome!

rha2star Sometimes whatsapp gives issues with SMS, Enable passkey in whatsapp, next time you login it will use the passkey and wont ask for sms.

For me it worked flawlessly on both owner and secondary profiles. Play services help to directly toggle the code into whatsapp but it works well without.

Did you really use the same (e)SIM in owner and secondary profile? If you use multiple SIM maybe temporarily disable the one you do not need. Try a few online SMS services in order to confirm that reception of SMS on the secondary profile works in general.

@schweizer yeah, I only have one SIM card installed and no eSIM so no ambiguity there.

@W1zardK1ng I enabled passkey in Whatsapp in my old phone and then attempted to switch to the GOS phone but it never asked me to use the passkey as a way to verify my number.

What worked in the end is that I uninstalled Whatsapp on the secondary profile, restarted the phone, reinstalled it on the secondary profile by installing it via the owner profile and then went through the verification process again. For some reason the SMS method of verification worked this time around. I had tried restarting like this multiple times but for whatever reason it worked this time.

As a bonus I was also able to transfer my chat history first time using the Whatsapp QR Code method. So all good, thanks for the input!
