Text Messaging Down across all Android Apps

I have a Google Pixel 9A. I recently installed Graphene OS. I am having a serious problem with text messaging. I cannot receive group message responses in group messaging and sometimes I receive no response from individual text messages. I have used 5 different text apps and none of them are working properly. I am not receiving text messages for some reason. I used the native texting app, that will not do it. I then used Textra, that will not do it. I now have google messages, and the same problem. NONE OF THESE APPS ARE WORKING PROPERLY. I am very frustrated. I'm beginning to think Graphene OS has some serious bugs. Bottom line, I can't have a cell phone that doesn't deliver text messages. I will uninstall the operating system if I have to. I can't imagine there is a problem with the hardware or phone; it is a brand new Google Pixel 9A I just bought a couple of weeks ago.

All these apps have all the requisite permissions they need, however they do not have location or other permissions which they do not need. I would be annoyed if someone is going to tell me that just like Google I have to allow these apps to monitor everything I do in order to receive text messages. I'm confused and would appreciate help!

Hi, this sounds frustrating but I bet we can get it sorted out. I am currently using quik. If you want to give it a whirl, we can try to work through your issue. If not, I wouldn't mind working through the stock Messaging app with you.

With quik, you would of course first make it the default SMS apps (I know that you know this, details for posterity). Then, you should only need the following permissions enabled: Contacts, Notifications, Phone, SMS. Battery is automatically Unrestricted. Turn off "Manage app if unused" for the heck of it but shouldn't matter. Exploit protections are fine to use.

If you want to start there, maybe? I'll check back, either way.

BuffaloStance Hey thanks, I am using the stock messaging app because I prefer not to use any google apps if I can help it. The problem is I am being told to uninstall and remove Graphene OS from my phone by my carrier, Pure Talk USA. They claim Graphene OS is causing all these problems, and they claim there is no problem with the phone itself. Like most tech employees in big telecom, they're all idiots and know next to nothing. With that said, I have tried EVERYTHING and still, the problem persists. It doesn't seem to matter which text messaging app I use, I am unable to receive certain (and random) group messages. Some group messages do through, others don't. As I've said, it's completely random as far as I can tell.

I have enabled "all permissions" for the stock messaging app, but still, the problem persists. I have changed all types of settings in the phone, but nothing helps. Anything you can do, or resources you have, are great.

If you look at these group chats on your friend's phones, do they show as MMS or RCS chats?

yore Airplane mode has never been turned on. I have a VPN I sometimes use, but it is not regularly on. It has not been on while trying to fix this problem.

I appreciate the help. Bottom line: I'm going to have to uninstall Graphene OS if I can't resolve this issue. My carrier is claiming that Graphene OS is somehow causing this issue. I don't agree, but again, bottom is I can't have a $500 smartphone that doesn't allow me to receive text messages. I hope you guys have some thoughts.

If your provider doesn't support GrapheneOS then there is not much we can do. However, I'd point out to your carrier's tech support that dozens (if not hundreds) of other mobile carriers (worldwide) are able to support GOS so the root problem is very likely them not GOS.

If it turns out that you're only missing RCS chats then it may help to de-register your number:
https://messages.google.com/disable-chat

(And note that important details can be wrong when talking to chatbots - they're not actually intelligent)

After you do that, your chat groups should (hopefully) update your info and start sending to you via MMS instead of RCS

I still do not know why I am randomly unable to receive certain individual and group text messages on my Google Pixel 9A with GOS. I previously had a Samsung A15 operating on stock android system. I have asked ChatGPT if GOS could be causing this problem, and it has said the following:

Now I believe I am being told there is an APN type error in Graphene OS. I cannot remove the extra space between letters and commas when choosing "default,mms,supl". This apparently does not permit messaging to work properly:

Can anyone confirm if they have this problem with GOS? Is anyone else not receiving messages for this reason?
