Hi guys,
so I am wondering about some alternatives to standard mainstream email providers but idk really, there is always something weird.
So I was kinda lurking around and this my summary that I observed as average Joe:
Mainstream/freemail:
Gmail, Outlook:
- Most secure in category in terms of auth (supports Yubikey),
- support is mainly not existed, but kinda automated, it depends.
- rest is knowed
Proton:
- Secure and privacy friendly version of Gmail in terms of ecosystem
- Uses quite a lot of 3rd party data processors (US based)
- can be pricier
- E2EE is cool on paper but mostly not existed in real world scenario
- Encryption at rest, zero-know and pwd protected mails
- disposable aliases
- support I guess fine, but provided also via co-op of 3rd party
Tuta:
- The most secure in terms of encryption and "lock down" ecosystem
- Privacy and security friendly as Proton
- uses I guess 3rd party only for payment
- support is in-house, but... seems not responsive to many people
- limited aliases that are not disposable (and can be used as another login username which is weird)
Then I also found a Posteo and Mailbox.org, which also look very ineresting, but I have no idea how they stay in comparison to Proton or Tuta, I know they do not support Yubikeys in terms of HW key (not sure if they are working on implementation)
Would like to know more about those from your expirience if possible.
They kinda both have interesting pricing, are mostly in-house, encrypted where they should be (E2EE again is not real case in the real world of mainstream).
They seems to be somewhere in the middle more towards privacy/security scale oriented, but Idk.
What is your expirience with them and their support, security and privacy of those two?
