Isn't peergos great for grapheneos users?

Peergos creator here. Happy to answer any questions. We're looking into the missing thumbnails for synced photos from android at the moment @sonice . In the meantime, you can add thumbnails when they are missing in the UI by selecting the files then clicking/tapping generate thumbnails.

Oh nice! Adding thumbnails worked. I had completely missed that option in the select menu.

Since you are here and answering questions, any idea on the timeline for an iOS app?

Having a true, cross platform, capability where you can go to a random person and say "Here's a link to the App Store/ Google play app," followed by very simple instructions for account creation would be massive in terms of adoption.

If you want friends/family/employees to actually use something it needs to be easily installed and set up by a random tech illiterate and just work.

Just to clarify, you can self-host Peergos as well.

The latest release should hopefully fix the missing thumbnails on Android. It also generates thumbnails for videos now.

JollyRancher We are working hard on iOS, but can't commit to any date yet. I totally agree it is super important.

Wow, I didn't know about peergos. It looks like I could replace nextcloud with it actually.

Does it actually sync files down to my android device? My biggest gripe with nextcloud is that it can only browse my synced files via the nextclou app, or webdav. Both options suck a bit.

If this is possible, it'll definitelly replace nextcloud for me. It even looks more lightweight, and I'd appreciate that a lot on my old laptop server

spl4tt Yes it is bi-directional sync. You can choose to ignore deletes at either end as well.

An option to either prevent local downloads or to force a delete would be nice for potential corporate environments.

Access control is a pretty huge deal in corporate environments.

What situation and threat model are you referring to for preventing local downloads? Do you mean on secret links?

Assume that a company is using Peergos for their cloud needs. It's self hostable, open source, secure, and scalable so it isn't a bad choice.

Now they fire someone. How quickly and completely that person can be denied access to data matters.

Is it realistic to be able to delete locally stored data off their device? No, although in an ideal world the employer would desire that ability.

Is it possible to proactively prevent people from ever getting local copies of data in the first place though? Or possible to prevent them from creating links to share that data outside the organization? Or for an individual to assign ownership over some piece of data to the organization?

JollyRancher We've thought about Company usage, and there are some small companies using Peergos, but we're focused on individuals for now. What we want to implement for companies (and maybe families) is sub accounts. Where an account can create identities that it controls and whose storage it controls too. Then the firing someone case would amount to the company account deleting the employee user account (the files would still be owned by the company). It could also control the ability for sub accounts to create links I guess.
