on reset - factory wipe, how can I add an app to be auto-installed

I would like molly-foss to be pre-installed on a fresh wipe, akin to how vanadium is pre-installed.

Is this possible?

gta3 I'm quite confidently positive that isn't possible. With any app. The only apps that will be on the phone after a factory reset will be the system apps (messages, phone, contacts, Vanadium, etc.)

If you are in a position to build your own private fork of GrapheneOS, I believe it would be possible to include additional apps as "prebuilt". But it would be necessary to do builds with some frequency to keep up with GrapheneOS.

gta3 can't, once you factory reset all apps must be installed again. Everything is gone otherwise

FWIW I use a shell script to 'adb install' all the apps I use after installation. It's more convenient than maintaining my own fork of the platform (although I've considered it).

lars this is not a common practice and certainly not a recommended secure way of installing/updating apps on a production device to be performed by a regular user and as such it should not be suggested.

It may not be a common practice in the Graphene world (I really wouldn't know), but I think it's more-or-less ubiquitous everywhere else.

Are there any "regular users" in this area? I suspect all the regular users are running whatever bloated crapware the handset vendor provides. I'd guess that if you don't have the technical sophistication to use adb and the like safely, you're probably not going to be here at all.

Having said that, I'd love to be wrong. I'd love it to be the case the privacy-focused handsets were a mainstream purchase. They sure aren't around here, though.

Adb is a decent method, but requires additional actions after reset, I'm aiming for complete forced pre-installs.

If I were to fork and build the OS with my selected apps, when the phone updstes automatically the latest GOS build, would that over-write my application pre-install data + programming etc?

If the GrapheneOS build instructions are followed, a private build will not include the System Updater app. This is because System Updater running on a personally-signed build would reject official builds from the GrapheneOS servers, because the official builds would not be signed with the personal signing key. As written above, going down this path will require repeatedly doing personal builds on an ongoing basis.
