What's app not working

Hi I am having some issues with WhatsApp. I have a new number and new pixel 9 device. When I first downloaded what's app my account was blocked for spam after sending one or two messages. After getting it unbanned I am unable to verify my number as its giving me the error message please use official WhatsApp app. I have downloaded the app straight from the what's app website and it still giving me this error. When I try to verify through a phone call or missed call my phone doesn't ring and I can't enable text verification. Is there any fix to this I need to use what's app as my family are on it. On my previous number what's app worked perfectly on graphene so don't really understand what the issue is. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Samething happened to me a week back. I guess WhatsApp is now flagging GrapheneOS. I contacted their support but it's totally useless. They unbanned my number eventually, but can't install on GrapheneOS anymore. I have installed it in a separate device which runs Google's official Android. Of course it works there.

bitestring thanks for response. Have you tried porting the number to your graphene device after getting it set up on what's app with the other device? As in my country what's app is the messaging app everyone uses its not feasible to carry around two devices everywhere. Very annoying as what's app worked on my pixel 8 phone which was stolen

Yes, I tried to install it back on Graphene after installing on regular Android. It did not work. It still says "You need official WhatsApp...". I tried setting up WhatsApp as a linked device in Graphene. It worked. But as soon as I sent one message, they blocked my account again. So again it took a day to get my account unbanned.

So I have given up. WhatsApp is not worth giving up my privacy or security. I would rather run GrapheneOS than having WhatsApp.

bitestring unfortunately my friends and family arent that interested in privacy as me. I have found a fix if your interested simply log on to what's app in another device then and link accounts through the qr code
