when booting it shows the ID: f729cab861da1b83fdfab402fc9480758f2ae78ee0b61c1f2137dd1ab7076e86 which is the correct ID for GrapheneOS on a Pixel 9 pro according to the installer guide on https://grapheneos.org/install/web#booting
so unless i got brutally spoofed and the real site is something else then yes, it's GOS

are you saving the contacts locally or through something like your google account or whatsapp?

Lucario1829 Locally, would love to be able to use Proton, but unfortunately, as i read many different posts/forums, that's still not possible

I just met a guy the other day that also has a Pixel 9 Pro and in the discussion he confirmed that he also experiences disappearing contacts

So apparently even a new flash wouldn't fix the problem... Any chance someone can look in to it? It's super annoying

I would check for important aspects that are missing in original description, like what other apps were installed at the time when this "behavior" was observed that have access to contacts.
From the quality of original description in the very first post (lack of major details ) this sounds rather as 99% of cases when a user doesn't remember he or she has installed something, did/clicked something, filtered views in apps, linked/cleaned up contacts, used custom contacts app, etc.

Gee, the very first post doesn't even mention stock/custom contacts app, local/davx5,... Save others time, think thoroughly.

Well I mentioned that I couldn't determine a pattern, so I didn't know what useful details I can give you.

Apps that have access to contacts:
Messaging (GOS), Phone (GOS), PM Mail, settings (GOS), and f'ing WhatsApp
so not so many variables

No synching contacts with anything

Also a second person having the same problem on Pixel9pro

It happened multiple times, it's not a one of, as mentioned in OP I had to re save my GF number, in the meantime I had to save it again (holding strong since a week or so now 👍)
It isn't easy to see a pattern because you don't get any notification/sign when a contact gets deleted (obviously)
You just notice if when you look fore someone's contact, when you see "unknown numbers" in your "recent calls", when you receive a call from a "unknown" number but then it's someone you talk with regularly or in chats when you see someone's number displayed instead of their name

So ok, maybe I f'd up (would be interesting to know where), but there's a chance that something else is wrong

User21M you see, if you're not paying attention to details, most likely you've overlooked something in your actions back then. In such cases, especially if there's nothing in official issues tracker, when the change is "not pleasant" but not harmful, I just try to observe what's going on "now" and if it repeats. And do backups, of course.
I'm not that good with stock apps, but you can create a label in stock contacts app, assign it to all contacts and sometimes monitor the number (couldn't find how to get total number of contacts easily)

I noticed you don't have to ad them to a label to see how many there are
When you're in the empty label click on "ad contacts" and you see how many unlabeled contacts there are (in my case 32 rite now)

Open the ≡ menu and then where the contacts are saved (under Accounts), and it'll say the number of contacts at the top.

You're right, it shows 0 for me as I'm not using local storage. So monitoring would be even easier then.

fernlike probably it's not the case for carddav storage as it's empty for me. But OP has it locally, so not an issue in their case.

In "settings" there is a "account" section where I can "choose your preferred service to save data for sign-in and autofill suggestions."

Don't really know what that has to do with contacts, but OK
It apparently has to do something with accounts

In "preferred service" I have Proton Pass
"Additional service" is Google (deactivated)
"Accounts for Google" Telegram and WhatsApp are listed (telegram doesn't/shouldn't have contact permission)

Maybe it doesn't show unless you add a Google account or select a Default account for new contacts. But that's beside the point you're asking about.

I keep an exported .vcf file that I update any time I change a contact. So I'd do that and then reset the Contacts app.
