tpain8300 your using Google. While the message content is encrypted they are still getting meta data alone with all the other data Google tends to mine and link it all together into a profile. Not to mention all the permissions you need to grant for Google messenger along with active g services.

Only my opinion.......I agree use Molly too bad it can not be a universal messanger and ven total voice/txt comms. Signal/Molly could have been THE app, as well as being universally cross platform. Now Google once again has a Android based monopoly comm app with Apple the other half. Huge missed opportunity and we are all less secure for it.

You're correct that there is no end to end encryption between Apple and Android with RCS. There is RCS that is strictly carrier based which is what Apple uses, and there is a different proprietary version Google runs though their servers. This is why there can be no E2EE as the carrier version does nit support it yet.

Google Messages is the only chat app that lets you send RCS messages on Android, there is nothong else other than Samsung Messages but I think they've retired it. I'm afraid that other than suggesting other apps that offer E2EE to your iPhone contacts there is very little you can do besides wait for carriers to add encryption to their RCS implementation.

OP's question is about the most private way to text message. Session stripped out perfect forward secrecy from its protocol years ago, so "the most private" part doesn't apply anymore. So don't use Session.

I suppose that if text messaging was not baked into Android, and was removable, GrapheneOS would probably not bundle it as a default app.

Just use molly.im or signal and you're fine.

Like at @DeletedUser499 said, there is no way to do regular text messaging privately and for crying out loud please don't lie to yourselves in regards to iMessage and RCS, they are by no means private. People got completely blinded by convenience. E2EE is the way to go, and it is also important what E2EE, they are not all created equal.

Not all people can switch their entire contacts to Signal.
So if the request is, how to still do it privately, at least from your carrier or low resources attacker, iMessage and RCS are always preferred over SMS. This is especially true in countries like US where iMessage is the default standard, not even WhatsApp which is at least end to end encrypted.
