Private space locking despite settings

Hello,

I'm having an issue with Graphene on a Pixel 9. I have it configured for Private Space to stay unlocked until device restart, locked via PIN and fingerprint. Yet - I find it locked within an hour, sometimes less, which closes the apps in it. This is super annoying and I don't understand why it's locking despite the setting. I tried changing it and then changing it back, restarting the phone, excluding things from battery optimization, etc.

Yet - it still locks. Today I watched a movie on my phone, about 30 minutes in I checked and it was still open. Then at the end (about an hour later) it was once again locked. Is there anything I can do about this?

EDIT: Or perhaps locked is the wrong term - I can still see it in my app drawer and the "lock" option is still there - but I can't interact with any notifications from it, and if I try to open any of the apps I get a fingerprint/PIN prompt

Yes, the better terms to use are BFU (Before First Unlock) and AFU (After First Unlock).

Same. This means that the once the device is restarted, Private Space will be returned to the BFU state, meaning all user data will be at rest (encrypted).

This is because the Private Space is in AFU, meaning all user data is in this profile active/accessible (unencrypted). However it still requires authentication to open notification or apps in the Private Space (pretty sure it's the intended design of such a feature that is meant to be "private")

I don't believe this is the intended behavior and isn't how it behaves on mine. When private space is unlocked, I can open/close those apps without any form of authentication.

blacktaco what settings do you have for both "Private space lock" and "Lock private space automatically"?

GrouchyGrape Oh interesting. It's how it functions on mine. I have Lock private space automatically > Only after device restarts with Private space lock > PIN and Fingerprint Unlock. Also, no Password.

Curious how yours is setup differently that allows you to open apps without authentication after unlocking the device from lockscreen

userofgos there might be some miscommunication. Based on the last part of OP's edit, it seems like the private space itself is unlocked, but attempting to open an app is triggering authentication request.

Perhaps they're using a different launcher, that'd be useful information to have.
