New phone, activating cell service before installing Graphene?

I'm a newcomer to Android and Graphene. I've got a new Pixel 9a coming soon, and I have an existing phone number that I want to transfer service to the new phone and Tracfone is the service provider. Is there a sequence of events that makes transfer of the phone service as straight-forward as possible? If I setup/transfer service before I installed Graphene, would that required additional contact with Tracfone after I install Graphene? Or would things "just work"? Maybe there is a FAQ that someone could point me to? I'm not seeing anything in the Users Guide about setting up a carrier, other than a brief mention about eSIMs. I have purchased a new SIM card. I'm not trying to transfer any data or the like, just porting the phone number to the new phone. I don't have any Google accounts of any sorts, if that matters.

Unless it's an eSIM, porting a number to a new phone is just like how we did it always,
means you put a new obtained SIM with old number, or old SIM with old number, or any
kind of SIM in a new phone, and things "just work" :)

You should be fine with the number. About the usage of GOS? That's a different topic.

Thanks, I've never done a phone swap before. Crossing my fingers. Apparently there have been people with Tracfone issues on their GOS setups in the past.

Just an update. I installed Graphene before activating with my carrier. And then I activated Tracfone. It was all very straightforward and "just worked".
