Fossify phone app - works, except for ringer.

Got Fossify installed on a Pixel 8, set to default app and took away all permissions from the GOS native dialer. The phone will alert me to calls but will not ring. Checked the ring volume, ringer is not muted. Wondering if there is something I have not de-selected or adjusted in the native dialer app that needs to be switched.

Maybe related: In GOS settings, I can adjust volume and a ring tone sample will play to the volume level selected. If I select a different tone from the list, I do not hear a sample played until I go back to the volume slider and move it to another setting. With notifications and alarm tones, I get an instant sample of a new tone the moment I pick it. Notifications and alarms work normally, so it's something with the dialer app itself that is not playing the sound when the phone rings.

Ok self follow up - deleted Fossify, installed another dialer (Right Dialer), tested it, and it worked. Problem solved, or so I thought. Got a phone call a few hours later and happened to see the notification, but no ring. Answered call and when finished, tested a few more times. No ring with this app. Went back to using stock GOS dialer and it works. I would be happy with stock dialer if it only allowed for blocking phone numbers but there must be more to this feature than a couple of lines of code because it's just not in there.

Has anyone had success with other dialer apps that will ring the phone? Hate to have to keep switching to an alternate dialer just to block a number now and then. Ugh.

Solved - I think.
Re-checked all the settings and I think it was the dialer not being set as the default dialer that was the problem. Fixed that and so far, Right Dialer is working. Probably same situation with Fossify, but will test this for a while more to be sure.

What do you mean you can't block numbers.
On stock dialer go to call list-three dot menu upper right-call history-there just tap on the number that called you and choose block number.

Open app, click three dots in upper right.
Call history; select prior call. Options presented to me are:

Create new contact
Add to contact
Send message
Call details

Click call details; options are:

Copy number
Edit number before call
Delete

Am I looking in the same place you are?

I open the grapheneos stock dialer app. When I click on the three dots upper right I get
Call history
Settings

And that's all. Phone is Pixel 9.
If I click on a number/contact there i can choose between send SMS, block/unblock caller and call details.

Under details i have the same options like you have.

Maybe you need to create a contact first for this number to block it? The option to create a contact indicates it is not in your contacts yet.

I have no unknown caller at the moment to t at if block caller is only available for contacts.

I looked it up with a non contact number. I still get the block caller option under create contact etc. So maybe something is missing there at your side?

MineralWater Maybe the menu is different in a Pixel 8, dunno. Fixed the problem by using a different dialer, regardless.
