Not able to install WhatsApp

I had WhatsApp installed a couple months ago for a while - I needed it particularly for an event, and contacts associated with that event.

Then I deleted it, because I generally don't want to use it.

But now a similar event is coming up, and I need to install it again. The install appears to go through, but then when the app opens, it gets stuck on the "loading." screen.

Any ideas? I see a lot of comments on WhatsApp, but it seems like generally people are able to install. I'm not (though I did have it installed recently.

kd92jew disable vpn and private dns if ypu have any, then clear data and cache of WhatsApp and try again.

Go to WhatsApp settings and activate Exploit protection compatibility mode. Once you have configured WhatsApp, you can deactivate it again.

Unfortunately that did not work, I get the same behavior (when I try to open, it's stuck on the "Loading..." screen).

kd92jew if you are facing some issues and are serious about geting a solution, describing it further may help, like source of the download, version of the software, phone model and OS version, screenshot of the loading screen would be beneficial too. You can also provide the app log immediately after it happens. We can only guess otherwise.

Source of download - google play store
Version - whatever current as of today on google play store (I looked at it on google play store, and can't see a version. I can't open it on my phone, just get the loading screen)
Phone model - google pixel 7a
OS version - 16

I looked at the app log, there's definitely a lot of lines with whatsapp in them. Should I just attach the whole log here? Is there nothing private in the log?

Try the version on WhatsApp website and enable exploit protection compatibility like SgtSurehand told, it works

I tried that (enable exploit protection), it didn't work for me. Same behavior.

One thing I have that's non-standard is I use a secondary carrier (Tello). This is because the primary carrier that I have, about 8 months into me using a second hand phone from Ebay, said that my phone (IMEI) had been marked as somehow associated with fraud. And the primary carrier wouldn't allow me to use it on their network, would give me mobile data. So I switched to Tello.

Loading screen isn't related to anything you mentionned.
You can use WhatsApp in airplane mode for example

The loading screen is what comes up right after I do a fresh install of WhatsApp from the google play store. It never gets further, even with the "exploit protection compatibility mode" turned on.

But now, because you mentioned Airplane mode, I actually turned on Airplane mode, and then tried to use it.

AND...it worked! I don't know what happened, but it got a few screens in (which wasn't happening before), then I got stuck because I wasn't receiving their SMS. Then I turned OFF airplane mode, shut it down and restarted it, and now it appears to work.

Though I don't have any of my messages that I had previously, and I'm not in the groups I had previously.
