Mullvad VPN on GOS

Considering moving away ftom Proton for email, calendar, and VPN. I have my own Nextcloud running for data.

Current plan is for Tuta for mail and calendar, and Mullvad for VPN.

Any users of Mullvad VPN with feedback?

I've been using it on all my devices including my GOS phone for years with no major issues. Once in a while (very rarely) the server I'm on will feel slow/be throttled by a website, and when that happens I switch to another and everything is fine.

I had no problems with using mullvad on my P6a. I don't use it now, I use another VPN.
Nothing to do with how it worked, it was the icon, it stood out on the monochrome GrapheneOS home screen. It annoyed me so much I changed VPNs.

Why are you moving away from Proton?

I prefer Tuta's focused approach (do a few things very well instead of trying to be everything to everyone), better encryption, and notifications that don't use play services.

On the Proton side, the Android VPN is rock solid, however I don't need Drive. If I could retain the paid VPN I'd keep it but I don't think they offer a VPN-only solution.

They do. Check out the VPN Plus plan. This gives you all the premium VPN features; if you wanted, you could still use the other Proton products with this account, but they only have the free features. So if you don't need Drive, just don't use it: you're effectively only paying for the VPN.

I've been using Mullvad on all devices (including smartphones) for several weeks and it works fine. Don't quote me on this, but my impression is that Mullvad is more trustworthy than Proton from a privacy perspective.

The only downside of Mullvad that I found is that it does not support port-forwarding. The feature was removed a while ago because it was being abused. Without port-forwarding, your discover-ability is hampered when it comes to torrent seeding. You can still download from torrents just fine, but others won't be able to download from you that easily. If you don't care about that, then I guess it doesn't matter.

the app is pretty much perfect i would say for mullvad, i basically never have had any issues with it..
rarely there are connection problems but they usually resolve themself quickly (but this could also just be normal wlan issues)

The downside is, that i think it is more often that sides are blocking/ require a login in. In particular reddit sometimes, and youtube basically always.
For reddit i consider it a feature currently to be honest.. since it blocks me from using it

That beeing said, i basically did also switch from proton to mullvad+ tuta like a few months ago, and i dont regret it.

The only issue is, that like tuta doesnt has that many alias addresses... but there is not really any good solution for this at all
