Hey guys, I have been aware of GrapheneOS for a while, but since I had just upgraded my phone by the time I heard of it, I kind of set it aside. I now have the opportunity to upgrade my phone, but since I do it every few years, I am not too keen on purchasing an outdated phone. I have done my due diligence and I know why GrapheneOS is still not available for the new Pixel 10 series.
There are two main reasons why I am looking to make the switch: Privacy and an ideological support for FOSS. It's been so long since I've owned an Android device, that I have no idea how much Google actually collects. A good motto to live by is, "If Google can collect it, then they already are." But truly, when it comes to the worst offenders, what do they tend to be, and could I make it better than a stock iPhone with just ADB?
I know you can disable Google Play Services with it. That seems to curb a lot of the collecting. I do not use AI features in my phones. I wouldn't be signing in with a Google account and I wouldn't use any of Google apps. Also, what of rooting? I did some superficial searching and it seems risky, as I can brick the phone. Is that still current? Is rooting not recommended?
And while I appreciate any and all help, I will not purchase outdated phones, so please do not suggest the Pixel 9 series. I will not be buying any of them. If I cannot make the Google Pixel better than a stock iPhone, I will just wait and see if Pixel 10 gets support in the end.
