Silence sms notifications?

I'm using Quik for messaging. Is there a way to silence sms notifications? I don't mind the visual pop-up but I'd like to mute the sonic alert for messages. I've tried setting it to silent but it doesn't work. I've also tried to change the sound to something less annoying but the default sound always chimes. Thanks.

I'm using Quik as well for texting as my defined standard app and I deactivated the AOSP messaging app. Setting 'none' for incoming notifications in the sound picker works as expected and mutes them (settings > apps > Quik > notifications > Default > Sound 'none').

So check if the AOSP messaging app is still actice and set as default for SMS...

I'm using the default SMS app and there doesn't appear to be a way to mute SMS either from specific contacts. Blocking, archiving, silencing and turning off notifications doesn't stop audio notifications.
