NFC payments on graphene

’m a big fan of the GrapheneOS project and plan to switch to it later this year. My only concern is that I rely on Apple Wallet every day, and because I have ADHD I tend to misplace physical wallets quite easily.

Does the GrapheneOS team have any plans for a GrapheneOS‑specific wallet app? If so, that would be fantastic. If not, could someone explain the main obstacles that prevent such a feature from being developed—perhaps regulatory or financial‑law issues in certain countries?

I’d also love to hear from anyone who’s already using GrapheneOS and has found a way to get third‑party wallet apps working. Any tips or workarounds would really help me keep that essential functionality without needing a physical wallet

Thisguy I'm not aware of a wallet app planned by GOS, if you live in the EU, Curve Pay work well on GrapheneOS that I use myself, no issues, if you live in the USA homewer, I don't know, Curve Pay should be planned in the US and Canada. I have also read that PayPal allows NFC payments, but I have never tried it.

Thisguy You're welcome, if Curve is available for you, don't hesitate to ask if you have any difficulties with the setup, but the Curve Pay configuration should guide you through it. To be prepared, you must activate NFC in Settings > Connected devices > Connections preferences > NFC On, then Contactless payments and you will need to select Curve Pay.

There may be alternatives to Curve Pay, but this one works for sure.

In Germany I use two methods for NFC payments:

meinebank.de using vpay
paypal nfc payments (paypal is doing a trial here in germany with it)

I am in Germany too and though I mostly use my physical card I would like to use PayPal as a card back up for grocery shopping and such.

Interesting that they plan to offer this.

I found it in the PayPal app.
As it seems I have to unlock the phone and start the PayPal app and choose "bezahlen" inside the app?

I set in settings of Graphene that double click on the power button will open the wallet, but that shows no effect. So obviously it can't be used with a double click like with apple/Google pay?

The PayPal app must be opened manually, right?

The paypal thing is public. you can activate it in the app. I thin you can also activate it over the website.

Its only available if you have a "German" Paypal account.

That would require the GrapheneOS project to set up banking-industry partnerships around the world the way that Samsung and Apple and Google have. I don't expect the GrapheneOS project wants to get into banking.

its a google issue mostly. Any Bank that uses google pay for NFC payment does not work on Graphene because Google wallet NFC is not working on GrapheneOS

de0u Ah yeah that’s what I was thinking. Fair enough, if I was part of the graphene os team I wouldn’t want to either. I’m just going to change how I use my cards and banking and update my OBSEC accordingly. I’ve done it for all of my devices so after a month I’m sure I’ll be fine. GRAPHENE OS HERE I COME!

Contactless payments do not work with PayPal (Pixel 6, no play services), they have problems setting it up.
Do you have play services installed?
(Would it work in private space?)

Does PayPal NFC work in the US? I have PayPal's MasterCard but always use my Chase or US Bank cards (and formerly Alliant CU) in stores and on NYC public transit.

I'm betting no and that it's EU-only. Every bank in the US using Google Wallet now on Android. I could buy a Gamin watch since Chase/US Bank work for NFC but hate watches. It's an autism sensory thing for me.
