Any newer updates to fix the atrocious text messaging keyboard?

Hello all!
I have been using Graphene OS for about three years on and off. I really hate the texting experience as that using the keyboard is terrible. is there any updates or improvements to the texting situation? It often misspells, doesn't register correct letters and the message it sends is usually quite an effort to correct.

You can install an alternative keyboard. There have been several discussions here, with different recommendations.

This is the default AOSP keyboard, and yes, it is very basic. There are better alternatives available, such as Heliboard and FlorisBoard, I currently use Microsoft SwiftKey without network access.

Discussions have taken place to choose a third-party keyboard that would be used as the default keyboard in the operating system, this keyboard must be 100% open-source.

Do you use google play services on the profile that has google keyboard?

If so, are you hopeful the keyboard is not sending all its data to play services via IPC which can then send it all off to the mother ship?

treenutz68 NO! I do not have anything connected to google as that my primary purpose is to avoid google. However, given all the difficulty and malfunctions and terrible texting experience I am considering going to a limited android version on Oneplus phones which are supposed to be a more modified OS. I would like to continue to use an OS completely disconnected from google if possible. All that said, its always worth rechecking one's system to check if somehow Google is tapped in. If anyone has any suggestions on how to do this quickly, I would appretiate if you provide a quick "how to".

DeletedUser433 It seems like autocorrecting is a big problem too. I have to spend more time trying to fix my messages than just being able to have it appear correctly and be able to send.

Artisto I added the F-Droid repo and downloaded from there. You can dl the APK directly as well

Artisto It may communicate with other apps (that have network access) through IRC for them to send telemetry. I don't know but there's a paper about this if you're interested

WOW the FUTO keyboard looks interesting!

Artisto I love it. Especially for privacy focused, pseudo open sourced. I think the voice to text works better than my work iphone. Also integrates with autofill for password managers for example. Cool extra functions as well that apple doesn't have.

Try out the futo keyboard as well. Or if you're interested in a learning curve, thumb key is solid

deplored So I have used it for a few days now and I am much happier with it than whatever that was I was using which really made me start to hate using graphene. I then also changed the SMS texting which was another part of the experience I was really hating and now so far it seems to be a nicer experience but still have to use a bit more to really form an opinion.
The third nuisance I am having is that neither of the two browsers I use Brave and opera will connect to some websites like bitchute. I am really annoyed and frustrated with this. The connection never establishes. Trying to understand why I saw that it uses a connection called Tl s or something 1.3.0. I don't know if this means much but thats the third problem making it a bad experience.

This is an issue with your network, DNS provider or VPN provider rather than GrapheneOS.
