Play Store uses a lot of data

I have the Play Store (as long as the Play Services and Google Service Framework) installed on my phone. I also had the Play Services for AR automatically installed, but I disabled it.

Since January 1, I already have 0.89Gb of mobile data that have been used by the Play Store in the App Data Usage menu. When going in the details it shows that it’s all foreground data. I haven't downloaded anything from the Play Store since the beginning of the month.

In the Play Store settings, I also selected the auto-download options to be used only over Wi-Fi. So I don’t really understand what’s happening here.

This is quite a problem as I mainly rely on my (limited) mobile data plan to get Internet. I don’t have much access to Wi-Fi.

What can I do to limit this data consumption? And what could be possibly send and receive as such a huge amount of data?

I don’t use play services so I’m not sure how to explain the data usage, but that sounds… pretty high

In terms of blocking apps from freely using limited cell mobile data (but allowing unlimited Wi-Fi data) the only solution I’ve used is netguard. I remember there being a discussion on here a long time ago where many didn’t recommend using it for some reason, but I don’t know of a better solution for people who need to manage their cell/sim mobile data usage.

On netguard, you can allow/disallow sim and/or Wi-Fi data usage on a per app basis.

It is normal : it is just the data Google spies on you (half joke)

muhomorr I enabled auto-updates in Apps only over Wi-Fi, but it's been almost two weeks I haven’t had access to a Wi-Fi network. That’s why it's outdated. The same is true for the OS auto-updates.

Build number is TQ1A.221205.011.2022122000.

Play Store is trying to update Play services and itself but is failing due to the outdated GmsCompatConfig version.

Now I understand. So, I need to update my phone and the apps from Apps and it should get fixed.

In App Info for Play Store, have you tried disabling Background Data and/or setting battery optimization to Restricted?

Updating GOS and the Google apps in Apps seemed to have fixed the issue.
