Private contacts

Since getting GOS I've always had to use Google contacts as my cloud sync to keep a backup. Not great for privacy at all.

I tried tuta but that didn't work great for me, plus they delete yr account if you don't login after a certain amount of time which was too risky for me

Finally got something private e2ee with free cloud sync.

Disroot cloud service gives you hosted nextcloud facilities including e2ee contacts sync.

Setup is a breeze including installation of the required DAVx to sync.

Finally have a private contacts cloud sync without hosting my own server and can degoogle contacts now.

Thought this might be useful to others that had the same problem.

lawman CardDAV (and also Nextcloud) doesn't support E2EE for contacts or calendars. You would need a special app if it was E2EE. If it works via DAVx5, it's not E2EE.

I'll need to double check if disroot is using e2ee or encryption at rest.

Either way, it's possible to use the nextcloud e2ee app for client side encryption, which DAVx caldev can't handle itself.

All scenarios above better than relying on Google contacts sync.

Do you have an alternative system for encrypted contacts sync?
