Immich has no access to local photos

Hello,

I installed Immich from the Play Store and logged into my homeserver afterwards. All the uploaded photos are there in the timeline, but the local ones are missing (DCIM folder)

I gave the app full permissions to access photos, audio and video manually because it wasn't asking for permissions. I restarted and re-installed the app, but that did not help.

Can users who got it working please tell me how you installed it and what you had to do to make it working?

I just figured something out, that was not the case on my old Android phone.
Once I select the album "Camera" on my device for synchronization, the photos show up in my timeline.
On the old phone it was always deselected and still the photos showed up. I did that because I don't want to backup all my taken photos in this folder
