I'm want to buy a Foldable, but what?

ifman13 I appreciate your report. I've been in love with the format since it came out, but now the prices, especially the OG, have dropped quite a bit. I'm very likely to end up buying it; I've had the P7 Pro for three years, all the time with GrapheneOS, and I'm very happy with it, too, so that's what's holding me back.

I have a Pixel 9 Pro Fold and I like it indeed, but you have to see the disadvantages. The camera is much worse than on the Pixel 8 Pro, you can't even 2x zoom properly. The battery life is noticably worse (That is probably fixed with the 10 fold) and the display resolutions quite suck if you ask me. You see pixels on both, front and inner displays. The front display isn't perfectly centered, so typing is weird. It also really really heavy, don't underestimate that.
If you can deal with those things, the fold is an amazing experience. I couldn't, and I'm now using my 8 Pro until I can use the 10 Pro with GOS.
I'd love to try the 10 fold, and I maybe will, but as it has the same exact cameras, I'm just not so sure if it's worth it, especially as I don't think the colors are all that great this year. The only real thing that's better is the battery tbh.

spl4tt 10 Fold also has IP68 rating whereas the 9 Fold only has IPX8.
Another thing is that the 9 Fold looks sort of dirty if I don’t clean it. It has lots of places where dirt can get stuck. It’s really not a good looking device in my opinion, whereas 9/10 Pro look about as clean as iPhones do.

I think that my conclusion would be that if you’re a workaholic who can somehow make good use of the Fold when you’re on the go, it is probably a good device.

DeletedUser449 A few years ago, I always bought the latest device. That's over now, and I only have owned 2 devices in later 5 years... In the case of the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, there are several things that prevent me from buying it: €2,000 seems very expensive, but I also have doubts about the new processor, as well as support for GrapheneOS, which is unclear when it will be available.

DeletedUser433 They're not. My 9 pro fold has drops and I seriously am not using it very nicely. Nothing can kill that thing it seems. The 10 pro fold even has a proper IP rating now.

DeletedUser449 I think the porcelain version looks extremely nice tbh. But I do agree that the normal pixels are just beautiful.
Also we forgot to mention, the 10 pro fold has a bigger front display, with much thinner bezels. That's something I don't like about the 9 pro fold. Those thick bezels really look bad.

cdflasdkesalkjfkdfkjsdajfd I feel kinda like that too. I only really buy devices if it improves my security. Which is why I wouldn’t get the OG Fold, because I don’t think that it has MTE.

9 Fold user here and I've been loving it. Been working great with grapheneOS. The 10 fold probably has better battery life but I've never been in a situation where I've needed to lug around a charger. Plus if you buy used you can pick up a fold for the price of a new 9 pro.

I have bought both a Pixel Tablet and a Pixel phone for the reason of having a larger screen at home.
I personally find the plastic screen of foldables a little too fragile and the costs are quite high, so I seperated my investments; if one device breaks, I still have the other. (Tablet and phone, which together still cost less than a foldable depending on the model of phone, like a Pixel 6, 7 or 8)
If foldables become cheaper, I might give it a go as well.
But considering a tablet might be an option if you're only planning to use a bigger screen at home, but you'll miss out on the convenience having a large screen with you at all times.
But the Pixel tablet sadly does not have MTE.

spl4tt I agree when it comes to drops/falls, but I don’t know about the hinges and wear/dust. I’m clumsy and my 9 Fold has plenty of marks from drops, but seemingly only superficial damage. The 10 Pro Fold even has an EU label that supposedly addresses those and it’s rated Free fall Class A (210 falls) which is better than many other phones. If the IP rating is accurate, it has also addressed potential dust vs hinges issues. So the main issues that remain are probably weight and camera quality. The camera is fine, but it could be better.

spl4tt I've also gotten used to a smaller phone and often appreciate how it doesn't weigh down my pockets or stick out when I sit down. With a bigger phone I guess you'd appreciate the bigger screen and battery life but I don't use it that much that it's important

Honestly I have no idea why they can't just separate the two screens with a real hinge. Nobody actually watches square videos that takes up both screens

DeletedUser433 I'm reading this right now on the fold, and having a gap in the middle would quite suck :P I like this big screen.
I got used to the weight and am fine with that. I rather have a big screen. It's nice to habe choices isn't it.
