Play Store sticks at 'Checking Info..'

Hi, I installed GOS yesterday using the web installer to a Google Pixel 8 Pro.

The phone is connected to WiFi but has no SIM or eSIM.

This is a vanilla install of GOS and only has the Sandboxed Google Play Store & Play Services from the GOS App Store.

However, when I tap 'Sign in' the Play Store just hangs at 'Checking info...' until eventually reporting 'Something went wrong...'

I've reset App Permissions to the defaults, deleted my personal space, uninstalled both PStore and PServices and hot/cold booted my phone, but the same thing happens every time.

Any idea what might be going wrong here?

Photonpoet Is it possible that your home Wi-Fi has an ad blocker or something similar that is filtering out some Google servers?

For what it's worth, I'm having the same issue with Google Play on a Pixel 8 that I just got last week.

In my main user profile, I only have privacy-centric programs such as Proton Mail; using Obtainium or direct APK downloads to install apps. I created a second Graphene profile today, installed Accrescent, Obtainium, and Aurora first to see if they had anything Google-related, then went ahead & used the Graphene app store to install Google Play Store, with the two associated apps Google Play Services and GmsCompatConfig. When I tap "Sign in", all I see is "Checking info..." for 5₁₀ minutes before it finally says "Something went wrong / Please go back and try again". I'm also connected to my home WiFi, and haven't had any problems with past Android phones with a full Android OS.

I can't seem to find a comprehensive step-by-step guide for installing Google Play, complete with all the permissions it needs. Maybe there's something in the permissions list I missed... Do we need to allow Google Play Services to "Modify System Settings"? (Well, that one didn't work...) Maybe I just need to laboriously try each permission in each of the 3 interdependent apps until something works?

Aaaand, that didn't take long... Another article not on this forum mentioned putting the phone into (then out of) airplane mode, and turning off WiFi to use cellular data instead. For some reason, that allowed me to successfully log in to GPS with my existing GMail address. I then had to download GChat and GMail over my cellular connection. :( Kind of annoying since I pay for my data.

I wonder if my initial attempts at using Aurora got my WiFi access point black-listed by Google or something. That wasn't working either, earlier today.
