Since updating the pdf viewer it is not opening larger pdf files - only one or two pagers which is a bit of a nuisance. Is that a known bug or do I do something wrong?

Thanks for the reply. On all profiles I did now reset the app, deleted all caches and tried again. It seems to work now but I had to open the larger files two or three times until they opened... on first attempts I saw the loading cirlcle and then it went back to the documents folder. After these attempts it works as expected.
