Wifi network refuses to provide option to authenticate

Hi,

I am a refugee from CalyxOS (COS) and have a strange problem with connecting my 8a to my work WIFI every since I installed GrapheneOS two days ago.

So the general set up is that you connect to WIFI the first time and then are led to a webpage where you fill some questions on who you are, register the device, are given some warnings and cautions, and then the device is registered. Reboot and we are in business. This has to be redone everytime a new OS is detected. This has never been a problem for me on any of my devices. including this particular 8a which worked on this network last week.

However, I have a strange problem. I am able to connect, but I am not led to any sign in page. (Instead I get a popup which says "Wifi does not have any internet options, stay connected"). Even manually entering that webpage does not get the webpage to connect.

So, I am wondering what could be wrong, and very perplexed as to what to even debug with? Any suggestions?

(Oh, I should mention that having Playstore installed or not did not make any difference: of course COS did not come with Playstore but microg.)

In Settings > Network and internet > Internet connectivity checks...

Make sure you have not turned it off.

los2cos2gos I have a vague memory that some time back somebody reported a similar issue when a network's captive portal had an invalid SSL certificate. Might that be the case here?

Probably9857 On vanadium, I get that this sites does not have https. Which is weird. So, I decided to go ahead with the "http" server. I did eventually get the webpage, where I was able to enter the details, but was told that I had come from a public (no https) site so I was asked to reload. And I did that, answered the questions. Was asked to reboot.

Did reboot, but still get get the "This network has no internet access. Stay connected."

I recall having this last problem once with CalyxOS: there was an option which said "Use this network as is" and for this first time, this was done, it connected. After that, I did not have a problem with it any more. I do not see where this option could be here. I could try it out.

2 ideas:

Make sure "randomize MAC" is set to "per network" instead of "per connection".
Assuming your workplace enforces 802.1x via TLS: your IT may have self-signed certificates that you might need to import first. So if you didn't already, ask the IT about the setup. A captive portal shouldn't require that, but you never know.

n3t_admin Thank you! Changing the "randomize MAC" from "per connnection" (the default) to "per network" appears to have addressed this issue. Thank you very much again!
