Screen Cast without WiFi?

IS there any way to cast the screen from phone to a TV in any way without both being on the same WiFi network?

Is that the only way?
I thought I tried that years ago when I used a Pixel 3! But it didn't work and never tried again. Is it just a case of USBC to HDMI to TV, and it will auto cast or do I need an app or to adjust any settings to make it work?

In my case, I merely connect it and it will mirror my screen, media related apps like VLC show a different screen, but will play the video on my TV just fine, but it will not duplicate the movie on my phone itself, which I do prefer.
It is best to keep the phone at a horizontal level for best viewing experience. It is best to use a displayport-compatible cable where one side has a USB-C plug and the other side a HDMI-plug rather than some converter box in between which potentially can cause input lag and other issues.

Not sure you need the "original" one, it's the same standard.

I am a bit confused here. On that article it says "The new Pixel 9 models all support display output right out of the box". But I have a Pixel8a

All Pixel series 8 and 9 support video out, including the Pixel 8a.
I use it with my xreal one glasses on my Pixel 9pxl, even though internet is being blocked because it sees the device as a ethernet adapter or something... But I am not too bothered by that, the audio and video works regardless.
My monitor detects correctly though, and the WiFi keeps working, so I guess it is an xreal one related issue.

Xreal had a firmware update to fix the disconnection issue on Pixel 9's, it is now resolved. (For the xreal one)
The update can be applied to the glasses itself.

Soon there will be a full desktop mode available, (if there is not already, I haven't checked lately) whereas the screen will adjust to the resolution of the recieving display and will have a fitting desktop environment for larger size displays, really cool.
