Hanna if your provider only supports VoLTE calls and there is no official support for Pixel phones, you will have to use Shizuku + Pixel IMS to enable VoLTE to make calls (GrapheneOS is the same as the stock OS in this regard).

mrket I think it would be very good if GrapheneOS added some kind of override for this though, this is an issue that will be affecting more and more people worldwide as time goes on (many providers in my country don't support Pixels officially either), and Pixel IMS is not an ideal solution as it resets after every update and requires enabling developer options for Shizuku each time it is used.

I'm not an Android developer though, so I can't say how difficult it would be to implement and maintain.

Emergency calls should be working without any issues. It should be non negotiable and the highest priority. Who cares about other calls, please just give us at least an emergency calls fix.
They probably don't care cause there are not enough Mainland China and HKSAR users.

I think the only feasable option is getting an iPhone or some cheap SIM less huawei second phone just for emergency calls... Crazy how a 1k$ phone can't call an ambulance or the police.

Hanna Do you have LTE-only mode enabled in your SIM settings? If so, that might be the reason. Calls don’t work in LTE-only mode if your carrier doesn’t support VoLTE calls.

In that case, try switching back to the setting "5G (recommended)"

To access the SIM settings, just type "SIM" in the settings search (with the phone set to English, I’m not sure about other languages). This can only be done from the owner profile.

How do I even check if that's going to work? Also if I remove my SIM I don't have such a setting. Is an emergency call going to get through? It should be independent of the SIM?

I don't want to test call any emergency number.

Hanna No, normal calls dont work either since I'd have to set up Shizuku for that according to some posts on here and github.

If normal calls don't work because VoLTE is required and isn't working, I would not expect calls to emergency numbers to work either.

Is 2G calling enabled?

I suspect there is also a practical issue: I suspect not many GrapheneOS developers live in the PRC (HKSAR or otherwise). More generally I suspect most GrapheneOS developers live in places where Google officially sells Pixels and thus don't have an opportunity to test against carriers that would require VoLTE forcing.

Hanna If the mode was previously LTE-only and now you have "5G (recommended)", try checking if normal calls work. You could, for example, have someone nearby call you and then try calling them back to see if calling works.

Andromxda Yes thx for the link. I already saw this issue on github and that's the github issue I was talking about earlier in my messages. Now that I read it more carefully someone said they had to add the area code before calling 110 (an emergency number) which I didn't do.

Is there any way to know if this works without Shizuku and Pixel IMS since calling an emergency number should also work without a SIM card inserted/ without any carrier confgs? Anyone knowledgeable about the technical aspect of this?
