Pixel 10 - Experimental support for GrapheneOS is now available!

spl4tt Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL were on a mix of Android 16 with some Android 16 QPR1 for the initial release. Their day 1 update in August was full Android 16 QPR1. September was the official release of Android 16 QPR1 but they got it less than a week earlier in August, then got another update in September. Pixel 10 Pro Fold launched in October and only has full Android 16 QPR1 releases available.

It's technically possible for us to do something similar to what we are for the 3 Pixel 10 devices launched before the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. We've been working on it and that's nearing completion, so we can publish experimental releases for the first 3 of the devices before Android 16 QPR1 is pushed to AOSP, but not the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. However, it's not a good situation as a whole. We also have a lot to deal with due to the lack of Android 16 QPR1 tags and also the new security preview releases we're providing, among many other things. Adding 4 new devices is not something that's easy to fit in right now even if they had pushed the releases to AOSP as has always been done before.

If GrapheneOS moves from pixels, what about a OEM like the liberty phone. I don't know really anything about that but it looks like they use m.2 slots for the modems, and most of it is built in the USA. I feel like they could be a great partner. Just speculating as I don't really know the ecosystem.

Bismark It's not likely to ever be liberty phone. They are using an outdated low end arm chip, and lack the security hardware that GOS requires for its security model. Barring some huge changes to their phone architecture there would not be a way to make GOS anything close to what it is on the Pixel line.

Nothingphone makes sense. Presumably with the Nothingphone 4 from late 2026 to mid 2027 with the new Qualcomm Snapdragon® 8 Elite Gen 5. This chip would then also have the ability to meet GrapheneOS-specific security standards. It's all speculation, so let's wait and see. We're still patiently waiting for GrapheneOS for the new Pixel 10 Pro XL. (It was too fast, but I really wanted to upgrade my Pixel 8 Pro.) With the problems Google is currently having with the release for developers, we can be grateful to all GrapheneOS developers for the tremendous work they are doing for us.

CappyT I don't see a lot to suggest Nothing. They are moving to the SnapDragon, but there doesn't seem to be much else to recommend them.
If I had to throw out guesses, I would guess either Motorola or OnePlus. But I have no special info. I think we will know in time.

burnoutdog Well, I was thinking in Sony. Nothing seems 'small', especially since they told it was a major OEM. Sony may not sell much in the eyes of my (very) unexperienced eyes, but it is a big brand; I guess that would qualify for me as a 'major OEM'.

If I had one wish, it would be OnePlus. I've only had the best experiences with these cell phones. My old OnePlus 6 still runs Lineage. Personally, I like the whole concept of OnePlus best. So, as I said, let's wait and see what the next 1-2 years bring. Since I discovered and started using GrapheneOS, I will continue to follow the GrapheneOS path. I will not participate in all this AI and spy stuff from Google and others. My Pixel10pro XL has already been debloated. ;)

3ch0 Well, one of the requirements for a compatible phone is timely updates (within one week of release) and minimum 5 years (but hopefully matching Pixels 7 years) of OS updates. Sony has historically been really bad at providing more than two years of updates.

Personally I would love it if Sony is a part of this, I still fondly remember the Xperia Z3 <3

Not to shatter your hopes or anything, but Sony is probably leaving the smartphone market for good. Their market share nowadays is laughable (I haven't even seen 2 Sony phones in the wild in the last year) and they (afair) have stopped selling some models in some regions entirely.

mr_r0bot These would be my guesses as well. We should start a betting pool. But would it be OnePlus, or Oppo? (I don't know much about the degree to which they act independently.)

Motorola might be a bet, I would have said nokia if It wasn't been bought from HMD..

goodgrief yeah, I get it. They held onto features that were axed by everyone else until this day.

Sadly, they already started reducing their uniqueness too: aspect ratio, resolution and nowadays the production is not even done by Sony anymore but some other ODM. I guess they still have some market share in their domestic market (Japan)? But everywhere else these phones are pretty much DoA.

The specs are often outdated, because of the long release times from the date of announcement and the pricing is insane. The Xperia 1 VII base config is about 1500€ here in Germany. I'd have to be crazy to spend that kind of money on a Sony phone in 2025.

n3t_admin True. Once upon a time I didn't mind paying a premium for the features and build quality but I've been off the Xperias for a while. I have generally liked their approach to physical design though. I'm definitely not a fan of the curvy and giant-camera-bulge school of design. I have been using Pixels, because of Graphene, but I don't care for the feel of the hardware.

I use and handle a lot of phones because of work and I have to say I love the squared-off approach. One of my favorite phones to carry is actually the CMF Phone 2. Nice screen, thin, light and grippy plastic back (can we please bring back grippy plastic?). Another current favorite is the OnePlus 13R, also thin and light, and with a great battery. And while I detest Samsung's intrusive, bloated OS, I do like the feel of the S25 Ultra.

Now I won't ever drop GOS for one of devices for my own use, but good lord would I like to see GOS on one of them.

I have the P8P. Wife has the P10P. Would like to upgrade to the P10P for the smaller size. That said, I don't see Google behaving well in the future. This P8P may be my last of their phones. I can hold on for another year or three, as long as I don't drop it too roughly. As it is, I also have to carry a Pixel 5 with Android 14 so I can have glitch free TTS over bluetooth.
