Gos as your only or primary computing platform

Do any of you use your phone/tablet as your primary or only general purpose computing platform? How do you have it setup? What inconveniences have you found workarounds to?

Do you use it for tasks normally not done on mobile devices? Image editing, content creation, office work, software development, server management etc? If your running it on a tablet, how well does that work? Would you consider GOS a good general purpose platform even if there some workarounds or inconveniences you have to put up with?

How do you do your backups? Do you use cloud storage, local nas, local usb?

MikeBench Hi @MikeBench ! I'll give you my phone setup so you can get an idea of how I use mine.

Owner Profile - I use this profile for all my main private apps without trackers. (Including calls and texts). These are only apps I can trust 100%.
Profile 2 - This is my 'untrusted apps' profile. Basically any apps that I want/need go here. They usually have trackers and thats why they go here.
Banking Profile - This profile only has my bank app. I like to keep it separate.
Private Space (in Owner Profile) - I use private space for untrusted apps that require verification codes. Its easier to unlock it and get my code via SMS rather than switch profiles and usually lose my progress in the app.

I installed my bank app from Aurora Store. I had to enable Exploit Protection Compatibility for it to work.

For backups, I used the default backup service, Seedvault. But it's garbage and hardly ever works. So now I usually back up my phone to a folder on my phones internal storage and then it goes on a flash drive.

It can't be done till desktop mode is improved to at least doesn't have basic UI bugs (cursor is disappearing, can't close windows, etc). 2nd is screen resolution to support ultrawides

As of today the desktop mode has not yet been officially released in the stock android. On GrapheneOS the screen mirroring through HDMI works but it's very far from replacing a desktop/laptop experience IMHO, even with keyboard and mouse attached. By default the connected screen's resolution won't be utilized which will result in empty spaces. There's a workaround but I don't bother.

Personally I use a laptop for everything requiring more screen real estate like coding, office work and browsing.

On GrapheneOS I keep all the apps like finance, identity, messaging and some productivity which I trust to run more securely on GOS compared to the desktop OS. I keep everything in the main profile out of convenience. I use Proton suite to sync the photos, email, notes and passwords between the devices. I find the Proton Drive app to struggle when syncing large files (a backup of few GB). Not sure if the absence of Google Play Services is a problem. A workaround is to transfer them through USB to a desktop where the Proton Drive will sync but it's an extra hassle again.
