On day 3 of GOS with pixel 7 pro. Couldn't have been any easier to install via the web interface and I've had no problem with the basic functionality of the phone/OS so far.
Definitely cleaner and lighter than stock OS and I can only assume there's nothing nefarious going on behind the scenes regarding security as I'm not really sure how to monitor this. Still learning.
After much reading here, I decided to utilize the root account for everything that doesn't require google play services and I use the private account for all else. I basically install needed apps to the root account and if they don't work (google apps are only active in the private folder) due to the absence of google play, I move them over to the private folder and delete them from the root profile. So far, I'm pleased with how this is working from an ease of use standpoint though there's certainly a trade off in the interest of keeping google at bay.
Operations seem to be at least as fast as before. No issues with multiple apps open, switching between them, etc.
Attempting to use Obtainium for non google required app installs and while the initial downloads have worked ok, auto updates seem to fail regularly. Probably something I'm doing wrong - haven't spent any time on it yet. I will say that each of the files were added to Obtainium via the Obtainium banner on either openapk or github - or maybe both. Can't remember. I only tried one so far where I copied the link over manually and I was unsuccessful with that.
Wifi, vpn, etc all works between the root and private profiles though I do have one concern regarding my VPN. I pay for Proton and always use Max Security/Secure Core. While this is a slower connection, It's never been a concern for me as I mainly stream audio/podcasts. Very little video. So far, I can't use this profile with GOS as I can't even get speedtest.net to start the test - because the connection is so slow. On stock OS I would get well over 100mbps always. Using the fastest country setting, I get 300mbps plus but I prefer total lockdown. Behavior is the same on wifi and cell data. Any suggestions?
Since google services are only installed in the private profile, when I lock this profile the google services notification icon goes away. I assume at this point there's no google activity on my phone at all, correct? When the private profile or folder is open, the google services icon comes back signifying that it is running in the background. During this time, GOS keeps most data from being transferred to google if I understand properly?
Thanks so much to theDevelopment team and the members of the community!
