What is bettet in terms of privacy and security, Brave or Vanadium?

Here are the pros and cons I know

Vanadium:

Pros:

Fully Open Source
Especially hardened
Build by the GrapheneOS devs

Cons:

Nothing comparable to Brave Shields
No Addons

Brave:

Pros:

Brave Shields
Normally hardened

Cons:

Not fully open source, cause it has some proprietary components like Brave Shields.

As far as the con "nothing comparable to Brave shields" goes, I use IVPN with the anti tracker on and it blocks ads just fine. The only thing I miss about brave is the cosmetic filtering it did with the ads where Vanadium it just leaves a big blank space where the ad was, but honestly its just a nitpick.

From reading this forum, I have formed the impression that functionally Vanadium is better for security but Brave is better for privacy, in large part because so few people use Vanadium that it stands out like a sire thumb.

I very much appreciate Braves effort to do user agent spoofing and stuff like this, I would hope that Vanadium implements it as well.

Worry more about your cookie acceptance policy, rather han the uniqueness of your browser. It would be silly to throw away hardening Vanadium and its webview bring in favour of proprietary approach with arguably only slightly better privacy approach. Half the pages I browse don't utilize Javascript. Half the apps I use are webapos or web pages, I am already greatly diminishing tracking where I can afford to do it. Brave is just a gimmick giving people fake sense of privacy allowing them to let their guard down.

Apart from the fact that Brave doesn't add anything to GrapheneOS that Vanadium doesn't already offer in terms of security and privacy, and which already uses WebView, there's no need for redundancy, except for better ad blocking, but that's not the most important thing when it comes to security. On the contrary, I think Brave increases the attack surface with suspicious additions, even on desktop, I would recommend Google Chrome with uBlock Origin Lite (or without, as permissions such as reading website content have become more extensive by default) rather than Brave. Furthermore, the fact that Brave has partnered with Unplugged, a scam, to use Brave Search by default makes me even less inclined to recommend their products.

The fact that Google (you know, the developer of Google Chrome), has no issues placing scam ads in their search, while downranking legitimate results, isn't problematic for you? Seems like you have no issues recommending their products despite this widely known fact.

And then the answer would be Google Chrome because this is the default for stock Android, but like sayed before, this would be the worst for privacy.

If this would be true them there must be many hacks of Tor users through websites they open in Tor.
Especially if they use it on a computer, which are elss hardened in generell.

mmobder You can choose to ignore what the project account wrote, but it's not recommended to promote software which has clearly been labeled as problematic by the project itself. Meaning: use what you want, but don't recommend it to others. It will be deemed misinformation and you will probably get blocked.

The full context is more nuanced than that:

At the moment, the only browser with any semblance of privacy is the Tor Browser but there are many ways to bypass the anti-fingerprinting and state partitioning. The Tor Browser's security is weak which makes the privacy protection weak. The need to avoid diversity (fingerprinting) creates a monoculture for the most interesting targets. This needs to change, especially since Tor itself makes people into much more of a target (both locally and by the exit nodes).

From my point of view it is the best solution but since I need to connect to accounts I remain on safari which is used by billions of users.

If you have the chance, which you do on GrapheneOS, then Vanadium. Everything else is a downgrade.
But your free to use whatever you want. Free world and so on :)
Above is also a hardening guide for desktop Chrome. Personally, since I do most stuff on my phone, I just stuck with MS Edge.
But that's just the decision I made in that case.
