graphene24892 If airplane mode is enabled before a reboot, does the cellular radio make any connections during the booting process? I'm curious if it's possible that the cellular radio receives electrical power, begins making connections, and then is stopped shortly after because the OS starts to apply airplane mode.
I want to make sure there are no IMEI or cellular identifier leaks during startup when airplane mode is enabled before a reboot.
There have been multiple threads on this forum discussing this.
The bottom line is that this isn't a question that can be answered by software people. To get an actual answer it's necessary to talk to somebody with RF test equipment and training in using it. So far nobody on the forum has posted an opinion from anybody meeting those criteria.
Also in theory it would be necessary to re-run the experiment(s) every time firmware is released (for each Pixel device).
Many universities have a lab with the relevant equipment. Quite a few cell-phone repair shops do, too. But, so far, posting the question here hasn't resulted in answers from people who work in university labs or at phone repair shops. So it seems as if the next productive step would be for somebody for whom this is a serious concern to talk about it with some people who aren't on this forum, and then ideally to report back.
