I recently found that the current version of Magic Earth (version 7.1.25.29, build 2025111712), installed via Auora Store, does not work on my GOS Pixel 7 (hardware SKU GVU6C). My location shown on the Magic Earth app is significantly inaccurate. I have GOS version 2025073000 installed which is the latest stable version. Google Play Store and Google Play Services are not installed. Location services for wifi, bluetooth, and network are all off. The SUPL and PSDS are both set to GOS server. The App has permission to access location, sensors, and network and location is enabled on the phone. Briefly checking the Google Maps website through Firefox Focus for testing shows my location correctly.
I reinstalled Magic Earth once and got the same results. When installing this version of the app there is a dialog that pops up with something about using high accuracy. I turned this off in all my installs and from what I’ve found online this does not matter unless using Google Play Services. Other than during the install I don’t see an option in GOS or the app with the same prompt.
I have another GOS Pixel 7 running Magic Earth (version 7.1.22.43, build 2025112533) without issue so I installed this same version from APK Mirror to the problematic phone and it works fine. Does anyone know what could be going on here or what is the most current version of Magic Earth that I can expect to work on the Pixel 7? I’d like to run a more current version for the normal reasons if I knew which ones worked. If anyone running Magic Earth on their GOS phones could reply with their phone model, app version, app build, and state that it works we could quickly compile a list.
As always, thanks so much to people keeping GOS running! I’ve donated multiple times in the past and will do so again as soon as I can figure out how to get some more crypto without a DNA test.
