Online backup

Though I've long avoided cloud storage on privacy grounds, the time has come to consider it. In the family we now have too many devices to try to backup and synch, and with a complex long-distance move coming up, I will sleep better knowing we are still backed up even if some hard drives are damaged.

Often mentioned positively in this forum is filen.io, and it works with both GOS and Linux. However, the Android app seems to be available only from the Play Store. Is there another secure way of obtaining the app (i.e., not through the Aurora store)?

Are there other GOS- and Linux-friendly backup providers I should consider?

Some questions were raised about how secure the service is asnit seemed to (at least at the time) seem questionably trustworthy for storing important data.

The situation could have changed since then, and I am not expert in this field, so take my words with a grain of salt.

I have proton Drive that I use for cloud backup of my photos, everything is encrypted before it gets uploaded.

Another possibility is you could use some back up provider that does not do encryption but encrypt everything on-device before uploading it.
