Connecting to Jellyfin server on my phone

Hi. Just curious if anyone knows how to connect my phone to my jellyfin server? When I open the app, it says Connect to Server and there's a box to type in that says Host. How do I know what my server is and how to connect to it? Thanks in advance! Ps, the jellyfin forum isn't useful to me. No one is replying to me, so thats the reason I'm posting here.

ErnestThornhill yes I did. I couldn't find anything that would help me on setting up jellyfin on my phone though

You need to setup your jellyfin server first. It listens on port 8096 by default so your server would be http://your_server_ip:8096

fruitjammer yes I have my server set up. So what is my server then? My IP address? That is just what I'm not getting. Because you said it is http;//your_server_ip:8096. So do I put my server and then my IP? Or just IP? Sorry for all the questions. :-/

nandohyphen1 Your server's IP address, which can be obtained from the server itself by running ifconfig if it is Linux/BSD (or ipconfig if it's Windows).

nandohyphen1 That's correct, put that into the Host field in your jellyfin app on your phone.

Actually I found my server name I think. So would it be http://servername123.4.5.6:8096 I tried that (with my real server and IP) and it didn't work

nandohyphen1 Sorry I don't know how to help you here, you seem to be lack of general networking knowledge, but I will just give you a few points for troubleshooting:

You can use either servername or IP address but not both and make sure you can "see" it by pinging the servername or the IP address from other machines.
Make sure the jellyfin server service is running on your server and listening to the default port of 8096 (or find out which port it is listening on). This can be done by using a (desktop) browser to connect to the same http://host:port.
Make sure your phone can reach your server on that port. You can use the terminal app that came with GOS to do it.
