About to buy used supported Pixel - which is best engineered?

I'd need some advice about the build quality of the various currently supported Pixel devices.

Reason: I see several issues mentioned again and again about most of them internationally, and in my country specifically. But I'd still prefer to have Graphene.

Planned use: Mostly as a phone, mostly at home. Some calls will be long (overheating? will need headset?) Conservative use, preferably no wireless connections, no other paired devices. Few apps. Generally very little physical abuse, screen time very low.

Leafy Though my Pixel 4a used to overheat so much during long video calls that I strapped it to a bag of ice to prevent it from shutting down, I've had no overheating problems with my 8a.

need a bigger screen - go 9 pro fold, otherwise, just 9 pro, once pixel 10 is released, so price will be adjusted

mmobder I don't need a bigger screen really. Price and the various problems will decide. 9th gen devices will probably remain expensive for a long time, so I won't get my hopes up. I also think that too many things can change in seven years for me to want to buy a device (with potential hardware issues) for such a long time.

Elgoog I've read reports about the 8a overheating when you take a lot of pictures (even when the weather is not very hot), which also drains the battery faster than it should. Not all were happy with the quality of the pics either. And the screen gets scratches way too easily (???). These issues - if indeed common - plus the high price of used ones don't make the 8a particularly attractive. It's not easy to see clearly! Will I definitely experience these issues or not?

Leafy I don't use the camera much, so I can't help on that subject. As to the screen, I installed a screen protector, as I have on all my phones. I would be surprised, though, if the 8a's screen differed much from those of other models.

Leafy My 8a heats up switching between AFU profiles. Anyway no one can say whether you'll definitely experience these issues. Screen protectors are quite useless imo because phone screens are made of glass which is already scratch resistant. Unless you buy a protector that has a higher hardness rating than the phone's screen. If it scratches as much as you say it does, you'll have to buy multiple protectors

It's a lot cheaper and easier to replace a screen protector if it gets scratched up than it is to replace a screen.

de0u My screens have never been scratched to the point where they needed a replacement and I consider myself to be a fairly rough handler. Many people also use plastic protectors which seem virtually useless on glass screens

Screen protectors would be good, but don't they interfere with the fingerprint sensor? It is no longer on the back of the devices, right? Some have reported issues. Much as I love the idea of security and privacy, I can't possibly type in a long password regularly (I would probably miss calls, as I keep the mic and camera usually turned off), and as some have noted, it is a concern in public spaces anyway.

One have to always use a 9H type screen protector, otherwise it makes no sense.

Leafy In Settings -> Display you can activate screen protector mode, which increases the sensitivity of the fingerprint sensor.

The article claims that "9H doesn't matter," but that's misleading. In the real world, if you buy a screen protector labeled 9H, you're usually getting tough, quality glass. If there's no 9H rating, you can often tell just by unboxing - it’s soft plastic instead.

Grapi 9H saved my phone (along with rugged case) twice last year. I've flip over on the rocks in mountain with phone in the hand with screen side to the rock.
