Hi all,
I live in Ontario, Canada and am considering switching from an iPhone 15 Pro with Rogers to a Degoogled Pixel 9a (or 9) running GrapheneOS. For clarity, I have never done this before but am fed up with how Apple and Google sell data to third parties. This, in conjunction with all the new AI nonsense is enough for be to seriously work to have better security and control.
I've been doing some research into how to set up GrapheneOS on unlocked Pixels, and while that part of the process is clear to me, I am having difficulty understanding how a Pixel running GOS works with, say the Rogers network or Bell? If I purchase, say, a Pixel 9a unlocked and install GOS on it, how do I set up cell connectivity and 5G data? Do I need a cellphone plan from Rogers or Bell like any other mobile phone? Does GOS work with 5G data? Does Rogers support GOS cellular connectivity?
I understand that with Wi-Fi connection, I can access the apps I need with GOS, but I have questions about how to secure 5G (or 4G) data connection when there is no Wi-Fi available. Similarly, how can I make regular phone calls with GOS? Again, I assume I would need some plan with Rogers or Bell or whatever service provider, but I've no idea if these Canadian networks support GOS?
Any help here is much appreciated!
