Battery cycles of new phone

I bought a new Google Pixel 8 Pro about two weeks ago. After installing the OS about 10 days ago, I noticed today that the battery indicates it has 268 cycles. It's true that it can indicate charge cycles based on the tests performed on the phone, but can it really have as many as 268?

Can installing GOS alter the number of cycles in any way?

Ryangos nop. Sorry but you've been scammed. You bought a used Pixel and not a new one. If it was new, then the counter cycle would not exceed "1"

I don't know about 1 exactly, but I think 10 would be suspicious.

I think if you put the IMEI or the S/N into Google's warranty-repair page they will tell you the warranty date.

Exactly. The warranty check link should be this one: https://support.google.com/pixelphone/gethelp Have to log in to Google but the account doesn't need to be tied to the phone in any way.

For what it's worth, my Pixel 8 Pro had 0 cycles on it when I got it, checked while still on the stock OS with:
adb shell cat /sys/class/power_supply/battery/cycle_count

It's nice that GrapheneOS makes this easy to access (under About phone → Battery information), I think vanilla Android not longer exposes it through the UI.
