mortuary_jab yes, this is why there was a release for AppCompatConfig recently. As of now, the release notes include:
temporarily allow Dynamic Code Loading via memory for the sandboxed Play Store by default until it's resolved upstream or by us coercing it to stop doing it (users can still disallow Dynamic Code Loading via memory for it as it doesn't appear to cause many issues but we don't want to have errors occurring for regular users)
So, you haven't updated to AppCompatConfig 4, you have disabled Settings > Security & privacy > More security & privacy > Automatic exploit protection compatibility mode, or you have changed the default value for DCL via memory for Google Play. Otherwise, you may not have noticed the crashes.
I'd suggest allowing DCL via memory to avoid crashes and odd behavior, but if you don't want to and don't mind the crashes, then of course you're free to do that too.
