Bitmask VPN: Internet connection broken for secondary user

de0u it is set to automatic in owner profile, and it cannot be configured in secondary profile

I have no expertise here, but random thought... Is the vpn installed on the second profile? I'm wondering if its always-on in the primary profile and for some reason its trying to be always-on in the second profile but since its not installed there it's just bugging out.

Owner profile have installed bunch of VPN and has rethinkDNS enabled

Secondary profile have bitmask and rethink installed as app but none configured (bitmask config failed and I removed VPN settings from system settings manually)

I have tried disabling VPN in main profile but still no connection in secondary profile

Did you remove the VPN settings from the system settings in the secondary profile? The owner profile VPN doesn't affect the secondary one (unless you are using the same VPN account), so you shouldn't have to make any changes in the owner profile.

completely remove RethinkDNS and the bitmask VPN app in secondary profile
Network and Internet > Private DNS Mode: Off
completely remove VPN settings in system settings in secondary profile

There is still this notification

clicking on "Disconnected from always-on VPN" notification gives "Can't connect to always-on VPN / [Legacy VPN] is set up to stay connected all the time. but it can't connect at the moment, you won't have a connection until the VPN can reconnect, change VPN settings"

I value your question and totally understand that it is a relevant topic.

In this regards, please forgive me a small critical, organisational remark:
When I read the caption, I thought that somehow VPNs for GOS were broken in general. A more specific title would have made my personal thread classification easier and saved some time.

Example suggestions: "My GrapheneOS VPN broken", or even "Bitmask VPN: Internet connection broken for secondary user".

Regarding the actual problem:

Diagnostic question: You wrote "no problem in other profile"-- does this include other secondary users as well? In other words, if you create a new secondary user, which can a throwaway dummy user just for testing: Does that result in the same broken connectivity?
Then I also wonder if it was an option for you to completely remove RethinkDNS and the VPN app for testing.
As a last general remark and to concur NetRunner88's and alfred's messages, a quick reminder to the GOS FAQ regarding VPN support (s. https://grapheneos.org/faq#vpn-support ).
Until this is sorted out, it seems wise to me to keep Network and Internet > Private DNS Mode: Off here.

no it doesn't, only the secondary profile has the issue. no other profile have this issue

Legged8 That is really strange, it's like it thinks the VPN is still there. Not sure if a reboot would change anything. If you create a new user profile does the same issue happen?

alfred thank you the new system update + reboot solved it
