Pixel 7a, no way to answer incoming call if the phone is non-stationary!

This is a fresh install on a brand new 7a; my SO has not even had this phone a week. If the phone is in his pocket and moving around, there is no full screen notification of the incoming call or any way to answer it, EVEN IF you quickly enter a PIN to open the phone and go to the stock phone app. It's just ringing away and no info appears on the app until the 4th ring timeout, similar to this post from last year: https://discuss.grapheneos.org/d/15305-my-phone-rings-but-the-call-does-not-show

I've checked the full-screen setting as advised in that post, and it's already set. Do not disturb is also inactive. I've reproduced this bug 6 times this morning, and after two restarts.

Interestingly, the phone correctly displays the full screen (answerable) notification if the phone is sitting stationary on a flat surface (it literally cannot even be sitting on an incline, it must be FLAT), just not if it's in a pocket or in hand, moving about. Can anyone help me understand what's going on here?

..which doesn't offer much in the way of solutions, but what's currently working for me (and contrary to other commenters in those threads), is a non-stock dialer/anti-spam app (EasyPhone). It rings through and properly activates a full-screen display whether it's moving around, sitting at an angle or laying flat, and I fully expected this to NOT be the answer. I hope it works for awhile.

Just for another data point. I have a Pixel 8 running GrapheneOS but don't remember version or where to find it but it's Android 16, Build 2025071900 if that matters.

On mine either stationary or moving there is no way to connect to an incoming call.

Same with me.

After last update, my Phone app wont let me answer like before.
Really hate to ditch GOS after so many years with it, but after the recent news about its future and now these constant "updates" that almost seem to be the same as a Google update in regression and repetitiveness, I think I might have to start looking again.

Generalaccountuse It seems clear that people still use and rely on plain old phone calls (I do, too). I think there's reason to be optimistic that the Dialer app will get further attention soon.

Of course, each of us must balance security, privacy, reliability, and convenience as seems best for us personally.

I had this happen on my P9P recently, but it doesn't seem to do it every time. I answered a call, talked for a few minutes, and then the caller had to call me back. When they called me back, it was a ringtone sound but no way to answer.

I don't recall if the phone was stationary either time or not.
