RotaryRoger The little icons shown on the left hand side of the status bar are a handy way to inform you that you have notifications from those respective apps or processes. If you swipe down to reveal the Notification Centre, you will find that every notification received has an icon displayed which identifies which apps or processes those icons belong to.
In your case, the "double square" icon typically refers to the App Optimisation process within GrapheneOS :)
