No, it doesn't. eSIMs also work with "eSIM support" toggled off. You have to toggle it on for installing an eSIM or de-/activating it. Not necessary for normal use. And important: If a PIN is active on an eSIM and support is toggled off you must remember the PIN or PUK or you won't be able to enter your phone after a reboot.
