eSIMs can't be added from SIMs

Hello. I just tried to make my old sim an eSIM on my Pixel 8a so I can still get incoming calls. However all Graphine does when I try to add it from the menu is to change the loaded main sim. So basically no eSIMs for me.

Any idea how to fix this?

Getting sick of Graphine not having even basic functionality. Everything is a trip the forums. I don't like Google but may have to go back simply because my phone would work.

Pardon my asking, but I'm not sure if I understand the issue correctly? I'm trying to paraphrase, to understand the issue better:

You have a Pixel 8a and used it with an old physical SIM card.
Then you asked your provider to switch your contract / subscription / prepaid from physical SIM to eSIM, while keeping the number.
Process on provider side was completed and you already got the access details (QR-Code, i presume).
You followed the steps of Usage Guide regarding eSIM (s. https://grapheneos.org/usage#esim-support ) and from the wizard Settings > Network and Internet > SIMs > Add SIM, completing respective wizard steps in GOS.
Now a new entry has appeared in the Settings > Network and Internet > SIMs for your phone number, which is enabled? And the old physical SIM entry is still shown as disabled? But you can't connect to the mobile network?

Did I get this correctly?

TiggyTheTerrible you have deleted the old physical sim details and restarted your phone?

Contact your mobile/cellular carrier to convert a physical SIM to an eSIM.

Bimmy I have two physical sims. I started with part 4 and went through what I thought was the process to make it into an eSIM. Which I thought meant I could have two sims in my phone.

DeletedUser299 No. I want to add the old sim so I still get phonecalls through it. I want to use the new sim to make calls. The old sim is also becoming my spam signup sim.

TiggyTheTerrible It is possible to have one physical SIM and one eSIM. It may or may not be possible to have two SIMs for the same carrier, and sometimes something can go wrong adding an eSIM. It is even possible that for some carriers the adding-eSIM process might go wrong if there is a physical SIM for that carrier present, but might work OK if the physical SIM were removed.

TiggyTheTerrible yes two sims an esim on one number and a physical sim on another number is possible, I have that on my P6a. Both sims active at the same time. BUT not using the same number.

de0u Hmm. Okay. I'm not sure why it wouldn't. Two physical sims for the same carrier seem to work fine in my Samsung. They really should just be adding them as a class list and checking them in order, codewise.

I didn't do anything out of the ordinary. I had a physical sim working as normal, I toggled the eSim support, rebooted and when bought and I got the eSim QR code on my computer in an email, I scanned it with the phone and followed the directions. I have without any problems on my P6a deleted, re installed eSims, had multiple eSims installed and working and had a physical sim installed, without the slightest problem. I do when I have multiple sims, check the box for using one sim at a time, not both active. However I have in the past had two active sims.

I prefer eSims I had three working on my phone, one at a time though.
