"Mark as read" no longer responding after Android 16 update

Like in the title. Since Android 16 when a notification for new message pops up tapping Mark as read won't do anything. Previously it worked just as expected. This is stock GOS messaging app. I haven't tested with other communicators yet.

I can confirm mark as read works fine for other communicator apps.

Byku You can try clearing Messaging app's app storage. Will probably clear some settings as well.

DeletedUser370 Nice! Clearing the cache did nothing but clearing user data made mark as read work again. However I've noticed another strange behavior. While testing I sent messages to myself via XMPP. I did not receive these messages until I opened the Messaging app. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the way these SMS were sent or is the app acting up again. I'll have to check by sending from another phone. Anyway, thanks for the help with this.
